Classification Societies to act on software safety issues

Over the past decades, safe ship operations have become increasingly dependent upon computers and software. If that software becomes compromised with a virus or other malware or simply a “bug” it can affect the safety and survival of the ship. The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) is going to focus on developing ship computer systems to help identify ways to limit the scope of damage to ships systems that can be caused by these occurrences. Maritime Executive has an article on this topic titled: “IACS Acts on Software Safety“.
